Circle of All Nations friend Bob Bourdon attended an event organized by Patrick Dacquay - he had participated in a CAN Gathering some years back - and he was now honouring Grandpere in France! As it happened, Marc Vela, who had come by some force of serendipity with his baby grand piano and fifty friends from France to deliver a send off concert at Grandfather’s funeral, was also at this event! Here is the message we sent via Bob, who translated for us! :

A Message from the Circle of All Nations www.circleofallnations.ca; www.asinabka.com
Greetings! I am writing on behalf of Grandfather William Commanda’s Circle of All Nations to send greetings to Patrick Dacquay and the participants at the 7ième Festival du Chamanisme. We remember you making the journey to Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg to join us for Grandfather’s peace gathering many years ago and are pleased that you remember him and his work so well, and that you are honouring him in your Festival this year.
Grandfather Commanda made three trips to France during his lifetime; once, in the seventies, he opened the Tour du France cycle race; as a joke, he planted a flag in the ground, and people reported remembering that thirty five years later – I am glad to see his spirit still alive in France today! He also did three days of pipe ceremonies at the Pre-Rio Earth Summit hosted by President Mitterand in 1990, to ignite a prayer for Mother Earth; and he continued to raise awareness about environmental stewardship throughout his life. May we keep that work alive too in these times of global climate change.
I note that Marc Vela is performing at your concert. Grandfather Commanda died in August 2011 on the eve of his annual gathering, and it seemed that he had arranged his own send off concert – Marc Vela arrived with his baby grand piano and fifty people from France and lightened our hearts with his beautiful music at that sad moment.
I thank Bob Bourdon for delivering this message – it is good to see the connections of the Circle of All Nations continue. I wish you all a very happy and successful festival, and thank you again for keeping the spirit of Grandfather Commanda’s work alive in France!
I attach a Mini Biography of Grandfather Commanda au francaise for you to share with the friends.
Here in Canada, we work to advance Grandfather’s vision for an International Indigenous Centre at Victoria Island; please add your prayers to this dream for global peace and unity.
Sincerely,
Romola
